Personality / Behavior (Gender-Unspecific Grooming)

  • Composure
    • I was listening to the Majestic Casual song "Darius & Crayon - Alicia", which had the photo below, and I was reminded of Helen of Troy, "the face that launched a thousand ships", and I thought that I could believe such a claim for this face. But then I realized it wasn't just the face, but the composure of the expression which seemed very alluring. And that made me think about how the way a person carries him/herself can play a big role in how attractive they seem. It can be very impressive when the intellectual part of a person is in total control of that person's behavior, and that person abstains from normal / mundane / less-thoughtful conversation. Like Lord Takeda in Kurosawa's Kagemusha, or Queen Elizabeth II, or President Obama.
  • Smiling
    • I was watching the YACHT Second Summer music video and was kind of amazed when I felt a strong sense of attraction to a cartoon triangle (which just sounds ridiculous), but after watching the video a few times and thinking about it some more, I realized that the cartoon character was behaving in a very cheerful / playful way, that isn't very common to see. So it was pushing some kind of button in my brain that reacts to that kind of behavior.
        • Smiling
        • Dancing
        • Being playful
  • Posture

    • Exercise your back

      • After doing rowing for a week or two I noticed that I just naturally stood in an attractive upright posture, where before I would have slouched. A masseuse told me the same thing without my prompting her: rowing will make your back stronger and improve your posture.

    • Alexander Technique

      • I've heard about "the Alexander Technique" for improving posture but haven't tried it.

    • Dance

      • The woman with the best posture I've ever seen was someone who was serious about dancing, and had done a lot of ballet. She was the only person I can remember ever meeting whose posture was so good that it was a significant attractive feature about her.

    • Sit in your seat with good posture

      • For some seats, I've found this to help: when you sit in your seat, stick your butt out into the corner where the back of the seat meets the part you sit on, and force your thighs back and sort of screw your butt into it in a way where you have your weight more on your thighs than normally.

    • Have your seat / computer monitor adjusted to encourage / allow good posture.

      • If my monitor is lower than my head, I will tend to lower my head to look at it, which I find tends to lead me to slouch over. If my monitor is at eye-level, I will tend to keep my head centered over my torso, which makes proper posture more convenient.

      • Also, sometimes I'll have the mouse and keyboard further away from me than would be ideal, but I don't notice it, and so I lean over. I've been able to fix this in the past by just moving the keyboard and mouse closer to me.
