How to get a job

Checklist for interviews

  • Prepare for the interview:
    1. Research the company for ~15 minutes.
      • This is what the RateIt CEO recommended.
    2. Try to come up with some suggestions / ideas for the company.
      • The RateIt CEO gave me this idea.
  • Do the interview:
    • Flatter the interviewer.
      • I think I got this tip from Spencer Greenberg, who read it in a study.
    • Try to get the interviewer to as much of the talking as possible.
      • I read this somewhere...
    • Express confidence.
      • ...in your ability to pick up any new skills you may need to know.
      • The RateIt CEO complimented me on that.
      • ...in your manner / tone ("shake hands firmly")
      • The $250k Airbnb guy stressed this to his students.

Books

  • Amazon - Who's Hiring Who?
    • Rec'd by typicalprog on the NomadList Slack.
      • I recommend the book _Who's Hiring Who?_ by Richard Lathrop. It's fairly old (revised in the 1980s) but mostly still applicable. He suggests informational interviews, where you arrange to meet with someone at the company to learn about them. And he has an alternative resume/CV format called a Qualifications Brief, I used to follow that back when I needed one.
