Times I've been really happy / unhappy
Times I've been really happy
If I keep track of times I remember being at my happiest, maybe I can use that to guide myself into more situations like that.(?)
- Laughing uncontrollably with Jeremy etc. in preschool, when we were already in trouble and Jeremy kept cracking jokes, and I wasn't supposed to be laughing
- Laughing with Jeffrey at a sleep-over, again when we were supposed to be going to sleep.
- Talking w/ my cousins when we had gone to bed and had the lights off, and we were supposed to be going to sleep. I remember laughing a lot.
- Laughing when I wasn't supposed to when Khash was making lewd jokes during a school-band concert, freshman year of HS
- Dancing for hours at the dance club in Buenos Aires when I was 15
- My birthday parties in middle-school and HS
- In college (in general)
-- rehearsing for the one-act plays
-- talking with people over lunch?
-- playing indoor soccer
-- dancing w/ people I liked to dance with, feeling the heartbeat of someone I liked
-- waiting for L to get out of work, knowing she'd agreed to sit with me
- In Spain, laughing at a joke one of the people at the hostel had made about 'first-world pigeons', and it was one of the first jokes (and maybe actually the first joke) I had ever understood in Spanish.
- With Y
-- the time between when I knew I'd be meeting up and when I actually did (Something my father said has stuck with me: there are three different ways you enjoy vacations: you enjoy anticipating the vacation, you enjoy the vacation itself, and you enjoy remembering the vacation)
- When I'm explaining hard-won useful information to people I care to explain it to, whom I think are actually listening to me. For example, when I'm explaining how to solve LSAT problems, or how to program, or how to decide what to do with your life.
- At GW, just people-watching
-- talking to people I wanted to be talking to
-- I was working part time (and for a period I was unemployed), and I was getting lots of sleep and felt great
- Laughing when Alex was talking to the taxi drivers on the phone
- Having three women gather around me me after I took the initiative to tell a group of people to gather around to sing happy birthday. I used a loud / strong voice and said "Go over there" and people did it.
- Winning 'best actor' in the play competition, having a crowd of 200-300 people laughing at my performance, feeling afterwards like I'd done a great job of it.
- K'g A.S.
- winning the boat competition
Times I've been really unhappy
- Being painfully bored in Maine
- Listening to my parents fight
- Getting in trouble / yelled at (just in general, but it was more common when I was younger)
- Accidentally hurting my friends and feeling really guilty about it (eg Shahin in 5th grade)
- Moving from CP to Leonia, losing all my friends
- Having acne in middle-school / HS, being too embarrassed to even look people in the eye, walking with my head down
- Bicycling from NYC to Pittsburgh:
-- Not talking to anyone ("voluntary solitary confinement")
-- Feeling like I'm in physical danger (getting hit by a car / sleeping in a tent on the side of the road)
-- Heat
-- The annoyance of flat tires
-- Rash / soreness from riding
- Graduating college and living with my parents for a year, not having friends near me, not feeling like I was a success, not having young women around
