Audiobooks
Misc ideas
- I should write up a guide to using audiobooks effectively for learning.
- I think one big thing will be to be able to pause it and have access to your personal notebook (like Confluence) so that you can categorize any advice / knowledge / ideas you hear and want to remember.
Q: Why not use audio-books instead of reading?
A: Hmm...off the top of my head, I'd say the big downside of an audiobook is that it continues to press on and on. With a book, you can be constantly taking the material in the book and reflecting on it (by daydreaming about other things that you can connect the book to). Another good thing about a book is that you can write notes in it and then later come back to them; with an audiobook I don't really see how you could do that as easily (unless you had an e-book that automatically recognized your speech and added it in the margins of the page).
(Later: I still agree with the points that I made above, but I think that audiobooks can be very useful in some situations. One huge potential benefit of an audiobook is that if you have someone commenting on the text while they're reading it, they can explain the trickier bits for you. Another benefit is that it can be easier to understand if you have the inflection added to the words.)
