AS TLS1776 aptly points out, Master the LSAT's hypo-centric approach to LG is the yin to the LGB's yang. Learning how to incorporate hypos into your setups is critical.

TLS1776,

I've thoroughly perused your guide and wanted to extend a huge thanks for your amazing gift and contribution to the entire community of prospective law students. Rarely do we see any article written exclusively to help others desiring similar success to achieve that success; this is a noble act of selflessness on your part and really I think separates you from almost all of the other few in your tier (perfect-scorers) in the category of giving back. And in assembling that congregate of master advice & pointers – my, how effectively shrewd of an idea – you’re like an award-winning research correspondent, and a selfless one at that.

One thing in particular I would have never gotten without perusing this thread is the importance of practicing slowly (which I correlate with doing the problems as untimed), which I derived from the abstract violinist article. I’m a fellow musician like you, but because I was so intimidated by test, I didn’t draw a connection between accomplishing ideal musical performance and ideal LSAT performance. It simply didn't pop into my head. However thanks to your provided article I now have that understanding, and thus have really have upped my confidence by severalfold.

Overall gratitude is due to you by every reader for your gratuitous efforts -- demonstrated partially by how you made edits to your original post 115 times. Wow, what a saint.

My very best,
cc

Hello fellow TLSers,

I've recently read TLS1776's "How I got a 180" thread. Needless to say, it was a very motivational post.

There is a piece of advice given that particularly struck me: to get a study partner!

So, if anyone is in the NYC area, and is willing to do a once a week meet-up in the city, please respond (Or at the very least, to be PM buddies on TLS).

Hi all,

I'm just starting to study for the Sept. LSAT and have read through all of the top study guides here (PithyPike, TLS1776), but feel overwhelmed by the dense amount of information provided, and am confused about what to use for practice material.

 mac35352 - http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=145388

Thanks for the advise. I will contact TLS1776 to see if he is available or if he can suggest someone else. His LSAT prep advise is wonderful and very detailed.

McGruff - http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=224488

I started by reading the four “How I Got a 180 on the LSAT” guides on TLS, (one of which is, I think, a reformatted and abridged version of) TLS1776’s guide (which, despite being somewhat out-of-date as far as resource suggestions, is the best guide I’ve ever read. If you only read one, make it his and not mine. Then again, if you only read one, change your mind and don’t only read one), pithypike’s guide, spending a lot of time googling people talking about the importance of the LSAT, looking at law school profiles on TLS, and daydreaming about schools I (fortunately, for my motivation level) didn’t know had GPA floors. I made it a point, like TLS1776, to avoid anything that hurt my motivation.

MDJ2588 - http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=211248&start=1200

I have the Powerscore Bibles LG/LR, The LSAT Trainer, ALL LSAC PT's, the LSAC Super Prep Book, and a vast amount of study guides from various 180'ers (especially TLS1776), also I made several Excel data sheets of break downs on my scores, as well as a Dry Erase Board in my room for weekly goals.

Huge sigh of relief when this came back. [Context: The guide was taken down for a few days in 2013 when it turned out that an attachment I had included, which I had received from my study partner, and that she had received from her tutor, was actually stolen IP from a test prep company.]

everyone is going to tell you (or ignore you because you should figure it out) to check the stickies (threads at the top of each forum that don't move) and use the search function.

it depends on what information you are looking for. if you just started browsing i assume you haven't taken the LSAT yet. TLS1776's guide is the most in depth and Pithypike's is pretty well respected and used often.

LSAT preppers and score waiters:

I think brief descriptions of these guides would be helpful for first-time TLS users. Since it's been a while since I was in LSAT prep mode, you can help by writing very short reviews of these guides describing why they're helpful, and for whom they would be most helpful. I'll incorporate your reviews into the above post.

Ooo, I'll jump in. God knows I've obsessively read and re-read several of these threads.

Here's how I'd describe a couple:

Pithypike's guide: Many TLSers' bible, a 3-month guide to self-studying that relies heavily on studying question types within the different sections and drilling for comprehension, followed by a month of practice testing with review. Frequently recommended for those interested in self-studyin, with minimum financial investment required. As with all self-studying, definitely best for those who are self-motivated, but the prescribed timeline will help those who need a plan to stick with.

TLS1776's Thoughts on the LSAT: My personal favorite (love you, TLS1776!). A 180 scorer gives a thorough description of his test taking experience. Includes reviews of many of the most popular LSAT prep books (and beyond), with helpful descriptions and recommendations for their use. Goes into lots of detail on every aspect of the test, including lifestyle tips and beyond. Unlike Pithypike's guide, there's no pre-prescribed timeline or plan set out, but if you like obsessing over details and are motivated by emulating top test takers, this is the perfect self-study guide for you. I'd recommend it for those who want to self-study, explore a lot of prep material, and are comfortable or prefer mixing up their studying as they go rather than trying to stick with a laid-out plan. Bonus: contains download links for documents full of extra tips and handy diagrams.

Sorry, rambling.. so much for a succinct summary. Just love that guide! I imagine someone else can summarize Pithypike's guide better; I've gone through it a few times but haven't personally tried it by the letter.

Hurm, I just noticed I used the phrase "and beyond" twice in my review of TLS1776's thread. Well, that's just terrible writing. Still, not inaccurate descriptions. That man is thorough.
